There are two different incisions done at different points one at the groin where the target vein is located and other at the ankle or the knee and the top part is tied and the vein is sealed. Through the bottom incision, a wire is threaded through and pulled out removing the vein along with it.
This procedure is quite safe and requires no stay in the hospital, but there may be some pain, bleeding and bruising and in severe cases there might be deep vein thrombosis. Recovery time for this procedure is usually 1-3 weeks where the patient has to rest and wear compression stockings for best effect.
