This procedure uses a catheter inserted into the patients veins though which a small laser is threaded and placed on the top of the vein to be removed. The small laser provides burst of light which heats and burns the vein throughout sealing it shut. An ultrasound machine is used to aid the procedure. The whole procedure is done under the effect of local anesthetic and there is a small probability of brief nerve damage.
